Top Tips for Family Photos

As a photojournalistic wedding photographer, 90% of my photos are relaxed, candid and non-obtrusive. However, I always suggest that the bride and groom have 5-10 family photos that are planned before the big day. This isn’t because I’m really particular, but it is to ensure that your day runs as smoothly as possible and you have plenty of time with your guests.

I always say- to plan your group shots ahead of time and here are some reasons:

  1. If I know the plan, I can get a wedding guest to help gather the groups which will save a lot of time.

  2. It will be very stressful for you to start rounding people up for group shots that haven’t been planned.

  3. You can organise the photos within your wedding timeline. If not you leave little time left for having fun with your guests before you sit down for your meal.

  4. You can make it a short and sweet experience.

  5. You won’t have any regrets or nag off parents about photos that have been missed.
